Project: Childhood Games
Do you Remember Playing these Games?

Do you remember the games we used to play in our childhood? The knowledge of playing such games are often verbally passed-down from one person to another.
As the generation moves forward, old habits inevitably get left behind. In order to keep up with the progression, I have come up with four sets of instructions for how to play four games that were extremely common in Singapore, especially among students. My wish is for games like these to be carried on by the children of future generations.

Piecing Memory

This work is a depiction of a miniature pop-up store, the kind you see in places such as mall atriums, Bugis junction, or Arab street. A variety of deconstructed and modified toys are placed all over the store, looking almost unrecognisable from its original form.
Toys are an important part of childhood, even more so for traditional childrens’ toys that almost everyone who grew up in Singapore played with. Memories from several years then are often blurred, unclear, and scattered. As viewers observe the toy store, they are drawn to the familiar objects that they remembered playing with at some point in their lives. Then comes reminiscence, and the ‘re-construction of past memories’ stimulated from the nostalgic recollection of the objects’ original appearance.
